Line Editing

Line editors take a careful look at the language that you use to convey your story to the reader. Their objective is to help you ensure that the language is clear and effective, and is presented with a cohesive pace, flow, and tone.

Specifically, line editors assess whether your word choice is precise and that it is the best way to articulate your idea. They look at whether sentences and dialogue contribute valuable information to move your story forward and how sentences flow into one another. They also look at the tone and pace of your writing and ensure it is consistent and effective throughout. Ultimately, they help the writer craft the best version of their story.

  • Line editing takes a look at the style, clarity, and effectiveness of the language used, line by line. It focuses on higher level elements including pacing, logical flow, characterization, dialogue, and tone.
Copy Editing

Copy editing is a word-by-word edit that addresses grammar, usage, and consistency issues. Our copyeditor will correct continuity issues in your story and ensure your manuscript is free of technical problems or major loose ends that’ll confuse your readers. Manuscripts will also be checked for any style, spelling and grammar issues. Our copy editors use Microsoft Word’s tracking feature so you can view changes to your manuscript and read comments. You can then choose to accept or reject individual amendments.

Proofreading

Proofreading is slightly different to copy-editing. It involves reviewing your manuscript and searching for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization issues only, not structure or readability issues. We’ll forward you a Microsoft Word file with any recommended amendments, which you can choose to accept or reject.
